Kim Kardashian Takes Possession of Late Princess Diana’s Cross Diamond Necklace

Kim Kardashian bought the infamous jewelry from the Sotheby’s auction Royal and Noble sale. The jewelry, which is made out of square-cut precious stones and circular-cut diamonds, cost $200,000, according to TMZ. Naim Attallah had purchased the necklace, which he gave to the Princess of Wales in 1987.

The pendant was among Diana’s “signature” ornaments, according to Sotheby’s. The prestige retailer noted on Instagram this month: “Through Attallah’s acquaintance with Princess Diana, he lent it to her multiple times over a period of years.” According to what is known, the necklace was only ever used by the Princess, and after her passing, it has never once been visible in the eye of the public until today.

Master of Jewellery at Sotheby’s London, Kristian Spofforth, issued the following comment: “This jewelry is remarkable in terms of its size, color, and design, and it can’t help but make a strong statement about fashion or faith, or even both. We are happy that this art has been given a fresh lease on life by a different internationally renowned figure.” The publication continued by claiming that the star of “The Kardashians” is “honored to hold a superb piece of jewelry cherished by the late princess,” who wore the pendant at a charity banquet in London in 1987 while donning a purple Victorian velvet dress created by Catherine Walker.

This is just one of many unique items that the television personality owns from some of history’s most significant pop culture figures. In addition, Kardashian paid $379,500 for Jackie Kennedy’s Cartier watch in 2017, received a Marilyn Monroe hairpiece from Ripley’s Believe It or Not last year, and bought her daughter North Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” hat, jacket, and gloves for Christmas in 2019. North wore them as attire for Halloween the previous year.

This specific piece marks a turning point in Diana’s life as she started to express herself more freely and with her own unique sense of style. Especially a piece like The Attallah cross, which is so colorful, flamboyant, and recognizable, jewelry that belonged to or was worn by the late Princess Diana seldom surfaces on the market, according to Spofforth. In some ways, this odd pendant represents the princess’ increasing self-assurance in her jewelry and wardrobe choices at that specific time in her life.

Kardashian has already expressed her admiration of historical fashion. She donned one of the most famous dresses ever made in 2020 for the Awards Ceremony afterparty. Her former Kanye West had given her the Alexander McQueen Oyster dress. Additionally, she wore Marilyn Monroe’s Jean-Louis crystal dress, which the diva initially wore in 1962 to sing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy when she graced the red carpet at the Met Gala.

Kardashian currently has enough items to fill a museum the size of Ripley’s, so she may consider opening her version of the establishment. Or, like Michael Jackson’s cap, she might give the necklace to one of her other kids. No one should be surprised that Twitter is reacting poorly to the acquisition, regardless of her plans for it.

However, it’s unlikely that this will deter the reality star from grabbing whatever she has her sights on. A garment worn by the late Princess will be auctioned off at Sotheby’s later this month. The strapless silk velvet design by Victor Edelstein might complement Kardashian’s new jewelry very nicely. It’s not impossible to think that she might be looking for outfits for the next Met Gala.
