What Do We Know About Netflix’s Hit Series Wednesday Season 2 So Far

Tim Burton’s Addams Family spin-off has been eagerly anticipated by the fans of the hit series Wednesday, especially in light of Netflix’s propensity for ruthless series cancellations. If they had cancelled the show, it would have come as a great shock given how well-received it has been by viewers and how well it has performed overall. In less than a few weeks after its debut, Wednesday became the second most-watched show ( English Language ) in the streaming service’s history. Even without the Wednesday dance sequence becoming viral, the show was an enormous success for Netflix when it debuted, breaking several records for viewership set by the streaming service’s other top show, Stranger Things, which attracted over 1 billion watch hours in only three weeks. Due to this success, Wednesday season 2 was officially announced this morning. There have been hints of spin-offs focusing on other Addams Family members, but given that Amazon has now acquired Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the studio that owns the Addams Family IP, it certainly appears that Netflix will stay true to the hit show for the moment to save money on additional royalty payments.

The expected release date for Wednesday season 2 is projected to be in the middle of 2024. Season 1 was shot in Romania. Season one took eight months to complete, and a second season would take a comparable amount of time to produce, including shooting and editing afterwards. Wednesday has indeed been confirmed to be renewed for Season 2!, Netflix announced on January 6 in a video posted to their Official Twitter handle. Beginning with clips from the show featuring Wednesday stating, “Over the past few weeks, I’ve been hunted, haunted, and imitated millions of times throughout the internet. It has truly been torturous.

Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, the directors of Wednesday season 1, expressed their enthusiasm for season 2. They stated, “We are eager to enter Nevermore’s strange, eerie realm in a new season. Just be sure Wednesday hasn’t already emptied the pool.” They continued saying, “It’s been amazing to develop a show that appeals to viewers all over the world. We can’t wait to continue with Wednesday’s agonizing adventure into Season 2.” Millar commented on the spooky messages Wednesday got in the show’s last seconds “Threats to Wednesday and the school still there. There are tons of mysteries yet to be cracked. Rumours were circulating that the show would be a Prime exclusive after the Independent dropped the news that Metro Goldwyn Mayer, the owners of the Addams Family IP, completed a merger deal with Amazon, which is worth seven billion euros. Amazon can claim the rights to the IP. But these rumours were debunked by IndieWire.

An insider with ties to the show reportedly informed them that a Wednesday contract between Netflix and MGM was sealed well before Amazon’s acquisition. According to a rumour, the agreement between Prime and MGM never granted Amazon exclusivity to MGM’s material; thus, Wednesday can continue operating as usual. Additionally, given the show’s popularity with the streaming service, Netflix seems reluctant to give up what must be a huge money maker.

Everybody who made it through season 1 will return for a second season. Naturally, this means that Jenna Ortega, who received a Golden Globe nomination, will return to her role on the show on Wednesday. Along with Percy Hynes White playing Wednesday’s almost-lover Xavier Thorpe, Emma Myers will also appear as Wednesday’s friend Enid Sinclair. Joy Sunday as the siren Bianca Barclay, Georgie Farmer as the gorgon Ajax Petropolus, Naomi J. Ogawa as the vampire Yoko Tanaka, and Moosa Mostafa as the bee-obsessed kid Eugene Ottinger. Hunter Doohan will also return to the series as Wednesday’s ex-boyfriend, who is a monster, later revealed in the last episode of season 1. The last time we saw him, he was being taken to jail for his offences, but the show’s makers say he’ll play a significant role in season 2. Gough verified his comeback to Variety by saying: “Yeah. Absolutely. He is there. That’s what we were trying to say. Additionally, we bet Tyler Galpin’s father, Sheriff Donovan Galpin, will return if Tyler returns.

The Addams Family is coming back, and the show’s creators have promised we’ll see more of them in the upcoming season 2. This calls for more appearances by Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams. Cousin Itt and Grandmama are two further members of the quirky family who could be mentioned. However, no additional casting news has been released as of yet. During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jenna Ortega discussed her expectations for her role in season 2. She stated, “I could be darker if you ask me. There are many statements about her protecting the school and stuff, but her primary motivation with the monster is competitiveness. I want her to become more involved and stop playing things so safely. She continued, I suppose I want it to go into an antihero path instead of a typical hero.

Gwendoline Christie also discussed the prospect of her character coming back. She stated, “She is still not gone yet. I had the impression that Larissa Weems wouldn’t be all that ready to entertain or be controlled by anything as ordinary as death.” We can only hope that the infamous Principal isn’t teasing us and that the writers genuinely do figure out how to bring her back from the grave. Marilyn Thornhill, played by Christina Ricci, and Wednesday’s therapist Dr Valerie Kinbott (Riki Lindhome), one of the Hyde’s victims, have perished in season 1. After viewers learned that she was really Laurel Gates, the latter was murdered in the series finale.

Jenna Ortega took to social media, thanking all the fans for supporting the show with a video after it was announced that Nextflix had renewed the show. She posted on Instagram saying, ” this is all unreal; I don’t even have the right words to explain it.” Catherine Zeta-Jones also thanked the fans for their support. She said this was the best news ever, and the news was so good that it even made Wednesday smile.
